Interview with a local business: Alexandrina Cheese Company

Nick van Vliet presents a series of interviews with local businesses in the Willunga, McLaren Vale, Mount Compass & surrounding areas.

Nick visits Alexandrina Cheese Company and meets Rebekah McCaul. Every Alexandrina product starts it journey as rich, creamy milk from seventy well-loved and individually named Jersey cows. They are fed on long green clover pasture, grown on the rolling hills of the family farm, located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.

Business Name: Alexandrina Cheese Company

Every Alexandrina product starts it journey as rich, creamy milk from seventy well-loved and individually names Jersey cows.

What is your elevator statement?

We have a single herd of Jersey cows and we make 40 tonnes of hard and semi-hard cheese every year from their milk as well as we have a farm shop.

Why did you choose McLaren Vale to set up your business?
In 1973 Grandparents brought the land because of the high annual rainfall which made it perfect to grow grass for the cows.

What are some of the secrets you like to share with interstate visitors and tourists when they stop in?
The Mount Compass produce trial operates all throughout the year but particularly during the summertime as it has strawberry, blueberries and cherry farms.

Next time you are in Mount Compass be sure to visit Rebekah at Alexandrina Cheese Company located at 37 Sneyd Road, Mount Compass.
