Interview with a local business: Willunga Hotel

Nick van Vliet presents a series of interviews with local businesses in the Willunga, McLaren Vale, Mount Compass & surrounding areas.

Nick visits the Willunga Hotel and meets Heath DeBoo. This year the Willunga Hotel celebrates its 150th Anniversary.

Business Name: Willunga Hotel

We There is a point of difference in a building that is 150 years old and built of stone which is also an attraction.

What is different about the Willunga Hotel?

The historic building and the good old fashioned service with the premium meals. We cater for everyone, down from schnitzels and a pint in the front bar through to a nice restaurant meal in the front bar.

What are some of the secrets you like to share with interstate visitors and tourists when they stop in?

I definitely think the Aldinga Beach itself is a pretty rare opportunity to have a drive along the beach. It’s also very kid friendly with shallow waters. We sit right in the hard of a wine region which is a definite draw card.

Why did you choose Willunga to set up the business?

I’m a born and bred Willunga starter through my school days and football club. Being a publican in different areas the opportunity to move back to Willunga came up and we moved back to Willunga 9 years ago.

Next time you are in Willunga be sure to visit Heath at the Willunga Hotel.
