Your Local, Mile End: A Chat with Mandy Doolan

If you’re seeking character, convenience, and community, then Inner West is the place for you. We sat down with Mandy Doolan, a local legend, to delve into Mile End—the charming neighbourhood that Mandy calls home and works passionately to showcase. With almost three decades of experience in Mile End, Mandy unveils the secrets that make this locale special and one of Adelaide’s most sought-after areas.

How do you foresee the Mile End real estate market performing over the next five years?

I believe that Mile End and the Inner West, in general, will likely remain strong, with demand consistently outpacing supply. You can’t find more property between the CBD and the coast, and this stretch is sought after for an enviable lifestyle close to all amenities the city and coast have to offer. The number of quality character homes in the Inner West, as well as our country-like community, is why the Western suburbs are shortlisted among first-home buyers, families, downsizers and investors.

What advice do you have for homeowners looking to sell their property in Mile End?

Engage your agent early. I love sharing my knowledge with locals, offering insights into what buyers look for. Before investing in renovations, invite your agent over for a chat—they can keep you updated on local market conditions regularly, ensuring you’re well-informed when the time to sell arrives.

What tips would you offer to prospective buyers looking to invest in a property in Mile End?

Engage a great finance broker. Whether you are a first home buyer, investor, or are making your seventeenth property purchase, the advice and options offered by a great finance broker can make a huge difference to how and when you make a purchase. I am more than happy to share my broker Sally Johns at Fresh Home Loans! Additionally, I suggest exploring cafes, restaurants, and parks. Every year, I organize the Sundae Fun Day at Mile End Common in December—an event that has been a community hit for nine years, featuring gelato, coffee, and a chance to mingle with your future neighbours.

As a local expert, what are some hidden gems or must-visit places you recommend in Mile End?

We are so lucky with a large range of multicultural cafes and restaurants in the Inner West. Some of my favourites include—Mister Sunshines, Bloom, Latte Studio, Thirty-Five Stirling, LoveOn Cafe, Half Cup Cafe, Paladinos Cucina, Blue Velvet, Parwana, Three Little Birds, Tinglish, Pixie and the Hawk. And don’t miss our local parks: Mile End Common, Dove Street Reserve, and the beautifully landscaped West Torrens Memorial Gardens.

What’s your personal driving force in the real estate game, keeping that fire alive when it comes to helping folks?

I absolutely love the community I live and work in. Helping my neighbours and clients buy and sell property in the Inner West is my passion.
