A mid-century gem with an outlook to treasure

Sold at auction This is a call to the mid-century purists. The lovers of all things stone, brick, timber and terrazzo. Because this 4-bedroom home - etched into Woodforde's natural elevation to forge a sweeping view over Adelaide's plains - celebrates its 1960's origins with an authenticity that will make your heart skip a beat. Perched on the high side of the street, the Carey Gully feature stone, exposed brick, steel balustrading and low-pitched roofline of its imposing facade, set the tone for this enduring home with a wide frontage on 690sqm of land with and a prized northern orientation. A green terrazzo porch welcomes your first step inside this light-drunk home that succeeds in drawing you to its open-plan nucleus – that is if it weren't for the sheer pull of the spacious lounge room that might just become your favourite space. Featuring Jarrah parquetry floors, stone and Holden Elements wallpaper, original reeded glass sliding doors and a new architectural corner window itching for a dining table at its feet, the lounge room is a trip back in time. And we're all for it. Credit has to go to the current owner, who embraced the home's style and roots but added a chef's open-plan kitchen into the heart of the home. Scandinavian inspired mahogany-style cabinetry, breeze blocks, a new retro-style Smeg 900mm oven and gas cooktop and an expansive terrazzo-topped island that doubles up as the perfect casual dining space under the glow of that northern light. Enjoy an aperitif on the terrace or take it to the tiered rear gardens. There's a space for every mood and occasion in this versatile home with the added bonuses of a quaint retreat/home office, underfloor wine cellar, beautifully sized bedrooms and a large garage for good measure. It might not feel like it, but the city stands just 20 minutes away, giving you the best of both worlds near the likes of Rostrevor College and zoned to the Morialta Secondary College, quaint Adelaide Hills villages, The Parade and a range of schools and shopping options.
